From Acorn to Oak Tree: How Coaching Can Help You Reach for the Light
In another words, your inner acorn's journey to becoming a majestic oak tree
Greetings, my dear readers!
Today I am going to tell you about the power of coaching, acorns and oak trees. So, grab a cup of coffee, take a seat, and let's dive in!
It all started when I was taking a break the other day and decided to take a walk through the woods. As I was strolling along and kicking the dead leaves, I stumbled upon a pile of acorns. Some were cracked, some were hollow, and some had already started to grow roots. My mind flew straight away to John Whitmore’s phrase: “We are more like an acorn, which contains within it all the potential to be a magnificent oak tree. We need nourishment, encouragement and the light to reach toward, but the oaktreeness is already within.” This phrase got stuck with me for a long time but only recently I understood its meaning. It got me thinking about the potential that lies within each and every one of us, just like an acorn.

You see, you're more like an acorn than you realise. You contain within you all the potential to be a magnificent oak tree. You just need the right nourishment, encouragement, and light to reach toward. But the "oaktreeness" is already within you, waiting to be unleashed.
That's where coaching comes in. As acclaimed coach John Whitmore said, "Coaching is unlocking a person's potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them." A good coach can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, set goals, and develop a plan to achieve them. They can provide you with the tools and resources you need to succeed and offer support and encouragement along the way.
That's why coaching is so valuable – it's not just a temporary fix. It's about empowering you to take control of your own life and become the best version of yourself.
Think about it this way: an acorn needs the right soil, water, and nutrients to grow into a strong and healthy oak tree. Similarly, you need the right guidance and support to reach your full potential. As Michael Neill said, "Coaching is not about being someone else's GPS. It's about being their flashlight, shining the light on the path in front of them."
I can attest to the power of coaching first-hand. Before becoming a coach, I was coached too. I had a lot of self-doubt and uncertainty in my life. But with the help of a great coach, I was able to identify my strengths and build on them. I gained confidence in my abilities and learned how to navigate obstacles with grace and resilience. And now, here I am, a coach myself trying to help you.
So, next time you see an acorn, remember that just like that little seed, you too have the potential to grow and achieve great things. And if you're feeling stuck or uncertain, consider seeking out the support and guidance of a coach to help you unleash your full potential.
As one of my favourite quotes goes, "The creation of a thousand forests is in one acorn." So go forth, my dear readers, and let your inner acorn shine! The world is waiting for you to grow into the magnificent oak tree that you were meant to be.
You got this!
